Interesting, your views in privacy and use of privacy coins sound parallel to some pro gun arguments I've heard. It's not the guns that kill people, it's people. All kinds of research out there to suggest that limiting or controlling access to the tool would reduse it's use for destructive purposes or negative purposes.

A lot of people wrestle with the fact that bitcoin can't be shut down. It's a similar concept to marijuana being a plant, so it is difficult to eradicate entirely. Or alcohol being something that you can create in your kitchen, so it is difficult to have an alcohol prohibition.

Guns are a bit different because you can regulate the supply chain of materials required to build them. However, even now we have the ability to 3D print them. Anyone can own a 3D printer, therefore anyone can build themselves a gun.

We take a stance of individual responsibility when it comes to using tools. Tools are neutral, and it is the responsibility of society not to restrict necessarily, but to educate and promote ethical usage of such tools. We do just fine as a society with butcher knives and cars. The majority of knives are used for cooking, and cars for regular transportation. I think we can figure out how to do the same thing with bitcoin.
